Description: Yitzhak Rabin Signed Carter Inauguration Day Cover, PSA/DNA Slabbed & Graded Gem MT 10!
An Inauguration Day cover postmarked from Washington, D.C. on January 20, 1977, signed in English by Israeli Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin (1922-1995), as "Y. Rabin" at the center. Encapsulated and PSA/DNA graded Gem MT 10. The "Washington at Princeton 1777 by Peale" 13-cent stamp is impressed with an "Inauguration Day" cancel mark. Lightly pencil inscribed by a former collector verso, else near pristine. The envelope measures 6.375" x 3.625." The slab measures 9.5" x 4.5."
Jimmy Carter (born 1924) was inaugurated as 39th U.S. President on January 20, 1977. Less than two months later, in early March 1977, Israeli premier Yitzhak Rabin and his wife Leah visited the Carters in Washington, D.C.; this envelope may have been autographed at that time.
Rabin's first term as Prime Minister of Israel spanned between his election in June 1974 and his abrupt resignation in June 1977. Rabin's March 1977 visit to the United States was critical in further cementing political ties between the two nations, and also for paving the way for the Camp David peace talks between Rabin's successor, Menachem Begin, and Egyptian President Anwar Sadat, in 1978.
