My dear Pope:
I wish very much that it were possible for me at present to assist you to a promotion. I have been in conference with the Secretary several times about it, and it really cannot be done just now. I cordially wish that it might be.

Seemingly a note sending disappointing news to a random civil servant, Pope graduated with Wilson at Princeton. With the informal notation of "My dear Pope" leads one to believe that these two individuals knew one another at least on a friendly basis during their collegiate years. Claiming the tying of his hands by Secretary of the Treasury William G. McAdoo, Wilson sends his dismay to the current impossibility of such a promotion for the former classmate at the beginning of his Presidential term.
CLAIM TO FAME:
28th President of the United States (1913-21)
Attempted to Make the League of Nations a Worthwhile Component of World Peace.
Suffered a Major Stroke Towards the Last Few Years in the Office, Thereby Limiting His Active Involvement in Running in the Country.

Wilson Died in 1924 at age 67.

CONDITION:
Folded into fourths horizontally assumedly for mailing. With staining at left border from handling and removal from mounting as seen on reverse as well as rust remnants from a paper clip at the upper left through The White House stationery and some spotting near the bottom left. All grammatical errors and incorrect spellings in the text are present in the document itself, not changed or edited in my description. Slight toning with minimal wear to corners and edges, save any previous description.
