Description
Partly-printed vellum Document Signed (DS) as President, "W. H. Taft," one page,15-1/2"x 19-1/4", dated 13 April 1911. This appointment is for a "Naval
Constructor in the Navy with the rank of Rear Admiral, on the Retired List" and
signed at the conclusion by William H. Taft. Large, blue paper seal affixed at
lower center remains entirely intact. Excellent condition with usual folds.
William Howard Taft (September 15, 1857 – March 8, 1930) was the 27th
President of the United States (1909–1913) and later the tenth Chief Justice
of the United States (1921–1930). He is the only person to have served in both
of these offices. Taft succeeded Theodore Roosevelt as president in 1909 after
serving as Secretary of War by appointment of Theodore Roosevelt in 1904.
