Description
William H. Taftsigned letter as president with the scarce form of his signature “Bill”. The May 21, 1912 White House letter thanks a friend for support in his re-election campaign and challenge from Teddy Roosevelt. Roosevelt challenged Taft for the Republican nomination, which Taft won at the June National Convention, just a few weeks after this letter.
Taft almost invariably signed his name Wm H. Taft reserving Bill or Bill Taft for the closest of friends. Such letters rarely come to the market. Even more desirable are letters from Taft or TR referencing their battles with one another and the fight for the 1912 election.
The letter is in generally good condition with one mailing fold which touches part of the signature and is accompanied by the original White House envelope.
