IMPORTANT TYPED LETTER SIGNED BY WARREN G. HARDING AS PRESIDENT TO THE PROHIBITION COMMISSIONER
President Harding plans to appoint West Virginia state Tax Commissioner, Fred O. Blue, as the new state Prohibition Commissioner to enforce the new constitutional ban on the sale of alcoholic beverages: “I had thought, prior to this time, to have an opportunity to discuss with the Attorney General and others concerned about the appointment of a representative of the Department of Justice to serve in your department. I am inviting Attorney General Daugherty to bring the matter up for discussion at the first opportunity. I have noted what you say about the desirability of the services of Honorable Fred O. Blue, of West Virginia. If the Attorney General is entirely favorable to this program and this particular appointment you can be sure I will not withhold my approval.”
