PRESIDENT RONALD REAGAN - DOCUMENT SIGNED 10/22/1952 - HFSID 4335
    RONALD REAGAN
One day after his daughter Patti was born, Reagan signed his agreement to make promotional appearances for his 1952 film,
    Law and Order
    .
    Typed Contract signed:
    "Ronald Reagan"
    , 4 pages, 8½x11.
Universal City, California, 1952 October 22.
Carbon letter from Universal Pictures to Reagan at MCA Artists,
    "APPROVED AND ACCEPTED"
    in ink by Reagan
and two officers of Universal Pictures.
    In part:
"You hereby agree to render your exclusive services for us in connection with one (1) or more personal appearance engagements for the purpose of the advertising and/or exploitation of our photoplay now entitled 'LAW AND ORDER', and we hereby employ you to render such services for us upon the terms and conditions herein provided and you hereby accept such employment. Said sum shall, of course, be deemed to be compensation in full for and with respect to such employment...."
The month and day have been handwritten in an unidentified hand.
    Law and Order
    was released in 1953.
Reagan portrayed Frame Johnson, a Wyatt Earp-like character. Ronald Reagan and Nancy Davis had been married on March 4, 1952 in Los Angeles.
On October 21, 1952, a day before this contract is dated, Nancy Davis Reagan gave birth to Patricia Ann Reagan
known today professionally as Patti Davis.
    Ronald Reagan
    (1911-2004) had two careers:
    actor and politician.
    His first movie was
    Love is on the Air
(1937) and his 53rd and last film was
    The Killers
    (1964).
In 1965, he wrote his autobiography,
    Where's the Rest of Me?
, a line from his role as Drake McHugh in
    King's Row
    (1942).
Reagan left his job hosting television's
    Death Valley Days
during the 1965-1966 season, when he entered politics. Elected
    Governor of California
in 1966, he was reelected in 1970. Reagan began his campaign for the presidency and
narrowly lost the 1976 Republican nomination to Gerald Ford.
    He was
elected President in 1980 and was reelected in 1984. After leaving office in 1989, he wrote his second autobiography,
    An American Life
    .
On February 6, 2001, Reagan became just the third U.S. President to reach the age of 90 and the nation's longest living President until
Gerald Ford (d. 2006) lived 45 days longer. Lightly creased. File holes at top edges, faint rust stains extend from file holes on first page. Staple holes in upper left blank corners. Overall, fine condition.
