PRESIDENT GEORGE WASHINGTON ORDERS AND PAYS FOR A KEG OF VINEGAR THREE MONTHS AFTER THE END OF THE WHISKEY REBELLION
President Washington buys a keg of vinegar three months after the end of the Whiskey Rebellion.  In July of 1794, the Whiskey Rebellion threatened the stability of the newly formed United States and forced President Washington to personally lead the United States militia to stop the rebels and put an end to the rebellion.  The vinegar was likely used by Washington to prevent the spread of disease, as a food source, or help treat an illness.  On the night before and morning of Washington’s death in 1799, physicians used vinegar to sooth Washington’s sore throat.
