According to the "British Potters and Pottery Today"
The firm of Elijah Cotton Ltd. of the Nelson Pottery is and always has been identified with
the manufacture of chinaware, in the production of which they can undoubtedly claim to be specialists.
In fact the firm's remarkable output of these more than justifies their claim to be the largest manu
facturers of chinaware in the world.
    Chintzware
    , or
    chintz pottery
, describes chinaware and pottery covered with a dense, all-over pattern of flowers (similar to
china textile patterns) or, less often, other objects. It is a form of
transfer ware where the pattern is applied by transfer printing
as opposed to the more traditional method of painting by hand and the main firms making chintz ware were
    from England.
