The village of Ramapo, on the Ramapo River, Rockland county, New York, the location of the Ramapo Wheel and Foundry Company, and of the Ramapo Car Works-population 700-is on the line of the Eric Railway, distant front New York city 33 miles
It was established by J. G. Pierson fi Brothers in 7790-its water power having been employed in the manufacture of nails, iron, steel, cotton goods, and wood screws.
The first cut nails made in this country were made here, as also the invention of machinery for making wood screws, which has since been transferred to Providence, R. I., and has resulted in the extensive concern of the American Screw Company.
The rapid communication with New York, water power, and wild mountain scenery, render this place attractive as a residence, and to the manufacturer few places possess greater advantages.
