FOR YOUR CONSIDERATION IS A LAND GRANT SIGNED BY PRESIDENT JAMES MADISON AND EDWARD TIFFIN, LAND COMMISSIONER, FOR ONE JOHN STUMP (1774-1856) IN 1814. BOTH SIGNATURES ARE EXTREMELY CLEAR AND STRONG EXAMPLES AND CAN BE READ EASILY. THIS SHOULD BE COMPARED WITH OTHER DOCUMENTS FOR SALE BEFORE YOU MAKE A PURCHASE. THIS SIGNATURE IS ABOVE PAR. IT IS PRESENTED IN A BEAUTIFUL FRAME THAT ENHANCES THE DOCUMENT. IT HAS ACID FREE FOAM CORE BACKING WITH MP ACRYLIC GLASS. TOTAL SIZE OF THE DISPLAYED DOCUMENT IS 18 1/4" BY 22 3/4". JAMES MADISON WAS THE FATHER OF THE UNITED STATES CONSTITUTION AND ONE OF THE NATIONS FOUNDING FATHERS. HE WAS ALSO PRESIDENT DURING THE WAR OF 1812 WITH THE BRITISH IN WHICH WASHINGTON CITY (DC) WAS BURNED.IT READS;

TO ALL WHOSE THESE PRESENTS SHALL COME, GREETINGS.
KNOW YE, THAT JOHN STUMP OF CHAMBERSBURG PENNSYLVANIA HAVING DEPOSITED IN THE GENERAL LAND OFFICE, A CERTIFICATE OF THE REGISTER OF THE LAND OFFICE AT CANTON WHEREBY IT APPEARS THAT FULL PAYMENT HAS BEEN MADE FOR THE SOUTHWEST QUARTER OF SECTION NUMBER TWENTY EIGHT, IN TOWNSHIP NUMBER TWELVE, IN RANGE NUMBER TEN OF THE LANDS DIRECTED TO BE SOLD AT CANTON BY THE ACT OF CONGRESS, ENTITLED
"AN ACT PROVIDING FOR THE SALE OF LANDS OF THE UNITED STATES IN THE TERRITORY NORTH WEST OF THE OHIO, AND ABOVE THE MOUTH OF THE KENTUCKY RIVER," AND OF THE ACTS AMENDATORY OF THE SAME, THERE IS GRANTED, BY THE UNITED STATES, UNTO SAID JOHN STUMP THE QUARTER LOT OR SECTION OF LAND ABOVE DESCRIBED: TO HAVE AND TO HOLD THE SAID QUARTER LOT OR SECTION OF LAND, WITH THE APPURTENANCES, UNTO THE SAID JOHN STUMP HIS HEIRS AND ASSIGNS FOREVER.
IN TESTIMONY WHEREOF, I HAVE CAUSED THESE LETTERS TO BE MADE PATENT, AND THE SEAL OF THE GENERAL LAND OFFICE TO BE HEREUNTO AFFIXED.
