Description
JAMES MONROE. Partly-printed vellum document signed by “James Monroe” as President and countersigned by George Graham as Commissioner of the General Land Office. The document is one page with a crisp white paper seal affixed to the lower left, measures 16.25” by 9.5”, was created in Washington, DC on July 1, 1823, and is in fine condition with minor foxing, minor remnants of tape on the verso, and two small tears above Monroe’s signature and between Graham’s signature.

President Monroe grants “William Burbridge of Parke County Indiana” a parcel of land “in the District of Terre Haute and State of Indiana containing eighty acres”.
Monroe signed this document the same year he declared the Monroe Doctrine, his most famous achievement during his presidency that became a defining moment in U.S. foreign policy.
