The nomination of James Garfield for the Republican Presidential nominee was a surprise to many. When at the convention James Garfield gave a speech so powerfully in favor of another candidate that instead of rallying supporters to the side of the other candidate, they insisted upon Garfield's candidacy. Garfield was reluctant to accept the nomination, however, after receiving enough ballots and publicly disapproving of his nomination, Garfield accepted.
One month after his nomination Garfield sends a letter:
"Mentor Ohio July 3 - 80
My Dear Townsend Yours of the 9th came duly to hand but found me overwhelmed with work. Even yet I have only time to thank you. With kind regards I am Very Truly Yours J. a. Garfield
Hon. Chas. Townsend Athens Ohio."
UNCONDITIONALLY GUARANTEED GENUINE - simply one of the finest GARFIELD autographs available on the market.
Letter measures appx: 7.75" x 9.75"
