Hoover. (1874-1964). Thirty-first president. He did an heroic job of distributing food and supplies to refugees of World War I. He was blamed for the Great Depression.
Description: Typed letter signed, 8x10, November 13, 1917, on United States Food Administration letterhead, Washington, D. C. to California congressman Henry Z. Osborne, regarding food relief during the war. In part, "I appreciate the reference you have made to me personally and concerning the Food Administration in your speeches. There is no doubt that this clear exposition of the War situation has helped to be a better understand of America's position in this War. It is only by such a resourceful presentation of our position that the people in the United States will be able to visualize how important it is to assist not only by supply men and munitions, but by conserving the food."
Henry Osborne (1848-1923) was publisher of the Los Angeles Evening Express and was Republican congressman for the 10th District of California. Included is a carbon copy of Osborne's letter to Hoover. Letters of Hoover as head of the United States Food Administration during World War I are uncommon. Hoover's letter is in very good condition with usual mailing foldsIncludes is a carbon copy of the letter Osborne sent to Hoover.
