Description
General Dwight D. Eisenhower served as President from 1953 to 1961 after serving as a 5-Star General in the army and Supreme Commander of the Allied Expeditionary Force during World War II. This most interesting signed typed letter dated December 22, 1944 was made to a ten year old at the time. From his office as Supreme Commander, Eisenhower writes “Dear William, I shall be glad to write you a few lines, but cannot make it more as I have no time for letter writing these days. Best wishes to you fro Christmas and the New Year.No doubt Eisenhower was immersed in making wartime decisions as this letter is written in the midst of the Battle of the Bulge (December 16-January 25, 1945), one of the largest battles of the War in which the Germans launched a massive surprise attack against the Allied Forces in Belgium and Luxembourg.
Accompanied by its original mailing envelope, the letter and envelope have both been coated with a light shellac. As a result both are brittle. The 6 X 8 letter has chipped corners and tear near upper border that has been repaired from verso with tape. Fair condition but most historical.
