"DDE" Letterhead, Gettysburg, Dated 7/2/1962
This neat letter is on the personal stationery for Dwight D. Eisenhower, addressed from Gettysburg, Pennsylvania. The letter and envelope are addressed to A. David Lowenthal, the father of a friend of mine who collected signatures; he ran a small publishing business and would send out framed reproductions of famous documents (such as President Lincoln's memorial address, as mentioned in this letter) as a gift for famous people, hoping for a thank you letter in response. (It frequently worked!)
The paper for the letter measures 10.5 inches by 7-1/8 inches, and has a double fold. The envelope is 7.25 inches by 3.75 inches. Both pieces are in very good condition. The envelope was slit across the top, and the back flap is still sealed to the envelope body; it carries a gold embossed address of Gettysburg, Pennsylvania. The letter has very clear type on cream (light tan) paper (not white, as it appears in some of the photos), and has the letters DDE in gold across the top. It has no tears or creases or other damage that I can find.
Both letter and envelope are addressed to Mr. A. David Lowenthal of Unity Publishing Corporation, Post Office Box 6413, Chicago 80, Illinois, with a Gettysburg post mark.
