Description
This is a RARE vintage 13" X 18" signed autographed poster of President Richard M. Nixon. The poster is dated 1969. However, it was presented to my Grandmother for her work with the Republican Women's Club in March 1970. She was the Vice President of her chapter in Lewiston, ID. It was printed by the US Government Printing Office. On the back of the poster, my Grandmother put a label on it with information about how she got it. I did not attempt to take it off but it is placed loosely so it might come off in tact with little damage. There are some minor marks on the poster that I tried to capture in the pictures. This poster was kept in a desk drawer flat with one side curved toward the back of the drawer for at least 50 years. I recently took it out of that same drawer to take pictures. The front of the poster has a quote from President Nixon with his signature below. My Grandmother frequently told me that she loved that she had a genuine signature of Nixon. I did run my hand over the signature to see if the ink was somewhat raised as it looks like a thin sharpie was used. I ran my hand over the signature and it has minor raised letters which would mean it is a real signature. I also ran my hand over the quote just above the signature and I could not feel raised letters so that appears to have been printed on the poster. The Republican Party would have these types of items given out with an original signature to leaders of local Republican political groups as a thanks for all of the time they spent volunteering for the party.
I will be shipping this out loosely rolled up with tissue paper around it and a loose rubber band on top of the tissue paper. It will be put in a long box for successful delivery of this rare item. In order to get the poster to lay flat after shipping, a low-setting iron and a clean dishtowel (under iron above poster) can be used on the back to carefully flatten the poster. Please see pictures and ask questions.
