ANDREW JOHNSON. Andrew Johnson (1808-1875) was the 17th President of the United States who came to office following the assassination of President Abraham Lincoln. He was impeached for violating the Tenure of Office Act by attempting to replace Secretary of War Edward Stanton, but was acquitted by the U.S. Senate with a single vote.

Partly-printed document signed by, “Andrew Johnson,” as Governor of Tennessee granting R.C.F. Cagle a, “certain Tract or Parcel of Land, containing Two hundred and fifty seven acres…lying in said County on the waters of Blue Spring Branch.” The document is countersigned by Tennessee Secretary of State F.N.W. Buron, one page with docketing on the verso, measures 16 by 13 inches, created in Nashville on November 14, 1856, and in good condition with toning and soiling throughout (primarily around the borders), a few small areas of tape residue, and several separations along the fold (with a complete separation down the middle fold).
