One of the HOLY GRAILS of Presidential Autograph Collecting!Legendary 16th President of the United States, ABRAHAM LINCOLN, autograph civil war appointment for Antietam veteran Sylvanus Mulford.
Abraham Lincoln promotes Mulford to Assistant Surgeon of the Volunteers and signs the appointment with a bold full signature as "Abraham Lincoln". Document is countersigned by his Secretary of War Edwin Stanton. Appointment is in fantastic condition with intact seal, and is dated March 2nd, 1863.

Sylvanus Sanford Mulford was a member of the 33rd New York Infantry Regiment. He enlisted as an Assistant Surgeon on May 22nd, 1861 in Almeria, NY. While enlisted his regiment saw action at the Battle of Antietam where he served as a Surgeon on what became and still is the single bloodiest day in American history. Less than a month later he was promoted to the
Assistant
Surgeon of the Volunteers by Lincoln in this document. An
undoubtedly
deserving reward for this Civil War patriot.
The document is housed in a "American Museum of Historical Documents" display (this company later became History For Sale). Lincoln autograph and overall document are in excellent condition. The appointment is housed in a acid-free Mylar sleeve to prevent acidification and is
