Description
1818 President James Monroe Framed Signed Land Grant.For an area in Richland County, OH (between Cleveland and Columbus). Frame measures 18"w x 14" tall. Document measures 13"w x 8.5" tall.
Professionally matted and framed under glass, on both sides. Document is framed loosely so as not to press the paper, so some folds remain. Creases and fold marks vertically in several places. All text legible, including signatures, though slightly faded. Light smudging and a few faint stain spots. Overall good shape.
The document states, with handwritten words in brackets [...] :
JAMES MONROE, President of the United States of America,
TO ALL TO WHOM THESE PRESENTS SHALL COME GREETING:
KNOW, ye That [Lewis Day, ?Signee of Jeremiah Bowen]
having deposited in the General Land Office, a Certificate of the Register of the Land Office at [Wooster]
whereby it appears that full payment has been made for [the North East quarter of section]
[Four in Township Twenty of range Nineteen]
of the Lands directed to be sold at [Wooster] by the Act of Congress, entitled
"An Act providing for the sale of the Lands of the United States, in the Territory north west of the Ohio, and above the
mouth of the Kentucky River," and the Acts amendatory of the same, There is granted, by the United States, unto the said
[Lewis Day the quarter] lot or section of Land above described: To have and to hold
the said [quarter] lot or section of Land, with the Appurtenances unto the said [Lewis Day]
[his] heirs and assigns forever.
IN TESTIMONY WHEREOF, I have caused these Letters to be made PATENT, and the Seal of the GENERAL LAND OFFICE to be hereunto affixed.
